Ode to Sushi










It was love at first bite. The California roll was how we got it rollin'. Sashimi was soon to follow. Nothing I had eaten before would draw me back to it like a lost lover. No matter the price, no matter the location; it was worth it for well-rolled, fresh sushi. Oh, how happy I would be if in Japan.


I love sushi. Actually, that's an understatement. I am devoted and inclined to the joy of consuming sushi. Twice I have tried to make sushi from scratch (let's not go there....it was quite embarassing, and yes I do have pics.) Whether the tasty Americanized version or the standard Japanese fare--sushi is one of the most delicious foods this great earth has to offer. And best of all, it's good for you.


The roasted seaweed and raw fish are sources of omega-3 fatty acids, protein and calcium. If you want the greatest source of protein--eat the yellowtail and tuna varieties of sushi. The thin, toasted seaweed sheets, called Nori, used in rolled (maki) sushi are high in Vitamin A
, B-complex, Niacin and Vitamin C. It is also good for digestion.






Ginger, called 'gari', is often served alongside sushi and helps with digestion while also fighting bacteria. This is especially of interest to those concerned with the bacteria found in uncooked meat.
Wasabi, Japanese horseradish, can also kill bacteria found in raw fish and is often provided alongside sushi servings as a garnish or is included as in nigiri sushi.

DAY 2: HOW LONG WILL THIS TAKE?











Technically, it is still Day 1. I posted at 3am last night and tonight I have done a very quick 20-minute upper-arm workout while listening to my "workout CD" of fellow Torontonian Just Bieber, Lady Gaga, Taio Cruz, Kesha and Black Eyed Peas. Watching my arm fat swinging left and right like a dangerous instrument was pretty depressing, to say the least.
It made me wonder how many months under they're long and lean and sculpted. How much longer do I have to lift up this dumb dumb-bell? I wonder how long it takes it lose 55 lbs.

I checked on some diet and lifestyle websites and it has taken people an average of 4 months to lose 50 lbs. For one person, it took 9 months (I am so not waiting that long, there is outfits to be worn!!!). But generally it has taken most dietters around 4 months to bust 50 lbs.

I am wistfully looking forward to slipping into my size 3 Parasuco skinny jeans, and being able to close the buttons on my Roots winter peacoat again. I have drawers of folded jeans with a layer of dust on them, beautiful designer clothing I can't fit into. If I could put on my jeans again....I will be so happy. That truly is my motivation--my clothes.

Today I ate 1/2 cup of whole-grain oatmeal with skim milk and sweetened with brown sugar, and a big plate of salad with no salad dressing, just vinegar and a few croutons (I stole two small bites of my Mum's macaroni and cheese though...but then I popped two fat-burning diet pills..so karma should be even). I wouldn't normally eat oat meal, or any carb other than sushi, Mmmmmm, but there is NOTHING left in the house. Tomorrow is grocery shopping.

And tomorrow I have already planned out what I'm eating since I'll be on the go from 7am to about 11pm or later. I will have a large Soy-Banana-Strawberry Booster Juice with spirulina around 12, then sushi around 2pm. Sushi keeps me REALLY full, so that's all I'll be eating tomorrow. For breakfast, I'll probably have a bit more of that oatmeal, but it's really watery so more milk than oats.

And as for the grocery run, I'll remember to stock up on asparagus and low-cal food like delicious salmon.

How Skinny Can You Get?

Drink your 2.5 L of water, Women!















If you're always on the run, like me, you may forget to drink water. Especially when there are so many tasty alternatives. If you are at a restaurant, fill up on your free ice water as much as possible, even better if it's lemon water!!!

Drinking your H2o has never been easier with these stylish bottles. Remember to drink your 8-12 glasses a day, or 1-2 gallons of water if you're a fitness buff. Water helps you lose weight, rids your body of toxins and makes you look more refreshed and youthful. Drink your water ladies, I'm on my 2nd glass....and it's 7:30pm...I better giddy up and at least drink 8!

Celine Dion Knocked up!

I was very upset for this fellow Canadian star after she had a miscarriage in August, in public eye. And I am extremely happy she gets to have two babies! Her heart will go on....

Canadian singer Celine Dion is pregnant with twins, her husband said on Sunday.
“We’re ecstatic,” Rene Angelil told People Magazine on Sunday.
Ms. Dion, 42, who was born in Charlemagne, Que., has publicly struggled with infertility.
She and her husband/manager are also the parents of a nine-year-old son, Rene Charles.
“Celine is just hoping for a healthy pregnancy. She was hoping for one baby and the news that we are having two is a double blessing,” said Mr. Angelil, who was born in Montreal.
Ms. Dion’s spokeswoman said the singer conceived the twins in her sixth in-vitro fertilization attempt

She is 14 weeks pregnant and is due to find out the sex of the babies next month, Kim Jakwerth said.

Nicole Richie has always been a cult fave for the anorexxies, and I too pledge undying love for her because of her fabulous style and the fact she was a fatty and lost it all, with the help of Rachel Zoe.
She has had a COMPLETE makeover and is a huge inspiration to weight loss. Her looks are unique, original and cool. Her pin thin body and rebellious nature is also an intriguing factor...Whatever it is, Hollywood would be boring without her!!!
